Insurance Checklist When Buying a Home

Often the home inspection is done and there is still information missing that is required by the home insurer, so I wanted to create a checklist for you to use.

The building itself

  Year the house was built
If any additions, when those were built
  Square footage
  Style of home (rancher, etc.)
Size of any decks, porches, garages, carports
  Type of siding
  Foundation type
  Type of roof
  Details of any outbuildings

Systems

  Electrical wiring type
  Electrical panel type
  Electrical panel amp service
Type of plumbing in the home
  Age of hot water tank
Type of heating systems in the home

Updates: the age of each, and the percentage that was updated

  Heating, including age of baseboards
  Electrical
  Plumbing
  Roof

The biggest challenge is older homes with little or no information on updates, and unknown characteristics like type of wiring and plumbing.
